I've been getting some abrasive responses from my Fine Arts major when I say that I want to be a freelance Illustrator AND Fine Artist. "What's the difference?" is the question I'm asking and "They are completely different" is the answer I'm getting. Illustrators tend to answer this question closer to how I think: "There is little difference."
I believe the lines between Fine Art and Illustration are increasingly blurring, and I intend to take advantage of this.

What is the difference between a fine art portfolio and a large pizza?
answer: you can feed a family with a large pizza.
do both. you will love the fine art, and pay the bills with the illustrations. Until you get established with the fine art then you can do whatever you feel like doing illustration wise.
